This is a really long, complicated project. Lots of stuff will initially come out at 'academic rates' as research is done and papers published. It's not about Kickstarter-style quick wins and ridiculous optimism that ends up being a total let down.John Graham-Cumminghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12998100764952319513noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1256203328790934312.post-63495268033813730602015-03-20T00:36:21.392-07:002015-03-20T00:36:21.392-07:00Reply to: cce17a10-a941-11e4-8619-97d1d4f3c1cd

Are there any online examples of the notation as used by Babbage?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1256203328790934312.post-60295560559627206402014-12-13T09:58:05.216-08:002014-12-13T09:58:05.216-08:00It turns out that the clock example is an early (c...It turns out that the clock example is an early (circa 1826) version of the notation which is much less developed than the DE2/AE notation. Some aspects of the earlier notation, such as directly recording gearing ratios, makes more sense for a clock than for a calculating machine.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02988342277438641380noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1256203328790934312.post-59752540904025456632014-12-11T07:22:45.511-08:002014-12-11T07:22:45.511-08:00As I recall, Babbage regarded his "Mechanical...As I recall, Babbage regarded his "Mechanical Notation" as his greatest invention. But even though he has a simple example using an 8-day clock in "Passages from the life of a Philosopher", I have never been able to understand it. I look forward to you're explaining it to me!C.
